How it works
  • When a purchase is made, a cardholder's card details are checked and the purchase transaction is authorised as normal but the transaction is set to a 'pre-authorised' status.
  • A cardholder's funds are placed on hold; the money is not debited to the merchant's account at this point.
  • It is, therefore, important to estimate the Pre-Authorisation transaction amount accurately as the cardholder's funds will be held until final payment is processed.
