MoneyBusiness is a new and different way to build the money management skills and confidence of Indigenous people and develop a stronger savings culture in their community.
ANZ is working in partnership with the Australian Government Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaCSIA) to deliver MoneyBusiness.
The program is designed to help address the financial exclusion of Indigenous Australians, an issue that was highlighted in ANZs 2004 research into financial exclusion in Australia.
FaCSIA and ANZ share a strong interest in working with Indigenous people to build better lives for themselves, their families and their communities through the development of stronger money management skills. This initiative will bring together ANZ's knowledge and experience in financial literacy and the Australian Government's expertise in money management service delivery in remote locations. The program will run over a three-year period.
The MoneyBusiness pilot sites are in Katherine, Tennant Creek, Nguiu (Tiwi Islands) and Galiwinku (Elcho Island) in the Northern Territory and Geraldton and Kununurra in Western Australia.
A number of local Indigenous people have been employed as MoneyBusiness workers, providing Indigenous individuals and families with coaching in financial literacy, budgeting, bill paying and developing savings plans.
Experience gained through the development of ANZ's flagship programs are being applied to the MoneyBusiness program. This includes tailoring elements of MoneyMinded to recognise local Indigenous cultures and learning styles and the introduction of a matched savings program based on Saver Plus.
